How it talks
Talk to it the way you would talk to a friend.
Ask it like a person
Ramble, start over, leave half of it out. It works out what you mean, the way a friend would.
It explains
You get the reason, the steps or the idea in plain words, as short or as detailed as you like.
It makes things
A bedtime story, a dinner plan, a tricky text message. It writes them for you on the spot.
Follow-ups
Then ask the next thing. It remembers what you were talking about.
No starting over and no repeating yourself. Press again and keep going, like a conversation.
-
You ask
“I have chicken, rice and a lemon. What's for dinner?”
-
You follow up
“What if I don't have broth?”
-
It picks up the thread
It knows you mean the chicken and rice, and answers that.
Its own connection
Always connected. Wherever you are.
Cellular is built in, so Digby is online the moment you pick it up: in the car, at the park, in the grocery store, on a trail. No Wi-Fi or phone needed, anywhere there is cell coverage.
Connected out of the box
It finds its own signal. You never join a network or type a password.
Completely on its own
It does not lean on a phone. Take it for a walk and leave everything else at home.
Nothing to set up
Press the button and ask. That is the whole manual.
What it is
A small device that answers whatever you ask it.
Hold the button, ask your question out loud, and let go. A moment later the answer is on the screen, or read to you if you would rather listen.
It has its own cellular connection, so there is no phone to unlock, no app to open and nothing to pair. Your finger finds the button and your thumb finds the wheel, so you can use it without looking down.
On you
Wear it, clip it, pocket it.
It is small and light, and the loop on top takes a chain, a lanyard, a clip or a key ring. Keep it wherever you will reach for it.
-
Around your neck
On a long chain or lanyard, so you can flip it up to read it.
-
Clipped to your bag
On a strap or a zipper pull, where it is quicker to reach than anything inside.
-
On your keys
It goes wherever your keys go, so it is hard to leave behind.
-
In your pocket
Much smaller than your phone, and far lighter.
-
In your purse
Drop it in. It finds its own connection, so it works from the bottom of a bag.
Who it is for
For anyone who wants the answer without the phone.
-
Busy people
Ask, hear the answer, keep moving. Nothing to unlock, and nothing on the screen to pull you somewhere else.
-
Parents
One hand is enough. Plan dinner from what is in the fridge, set the pasta timer or get help with the algebra homework while the other hand is busy.
-
Kids
Answers to the endless whys, without handing over a phone. There is one button, and no apps, feeds or videos to wander into. Every question and answer is saved to your account, so you can see what your kid asked.
How it works
One press. One question. One answer.
-
01 · Press
Hold the orange button on the side. No unlocking, no app, no wake word.
-
02 · Ask
Say what you want to know, then let go. It is already working on the answer.
-
03 · Read or listen
Read it on the screen, or flip the switch to Voice and hear it. Roll the wheel for more.
Why a separate device
Your phone makes a simple question complicated.
You unlock it, find the app, wait for it to open, and hand over your whole screen. Then there is everything else on the phone, waiting for you.
Digby is one press. It is always connected, it does one job, and when the answer is done it goes quiet again.
The details
Three controls you can find without looking.
-
Talk button
Long and orange, on the left edge where a walkie-talkie keeps it. A soft click when you press, another when you let go.
-
Scroll wheel
Knurled aluminum with a firm detent at every line. Roll to read more, press to hear it again.
-
Mode switch
On top, beside the lanyard loop. Text for quiet places, Voice when your eyes are busy. You can tell which by feel.
Its own connection
Built-in cellular, always on. No phone, no Wi-Fi, no app to open.
One thing at a time
A sharp little screen that shows the answer and nothing else. No feeds, no notifications.
Listens only when held
The microphone is on while you hold the button. Let go and it stops.
Colorways
A little color. One bright button.
-
Chalk
Warm off-white with a signal-orange button.
-
Graphite
Charcoal with the same orange button.
-
Blush
Soft rose with a raspberry button.
Concept colors. The final lineup may change.

Questions
Everything people ask.
The basics
What is Digby?
A small handheld device with an AI assistant inside. Hold the button, ask a question out loud, and it answers on the screen or by voice.
How do I use it?
Hold the orange button on the side, say what you want, and let go. The answer appears a moment later. Roll the wheel to read more.
Why not just use my phone?
You can, but it takes unlocking, finding an app and waiting, and then the rest of the phone is there to distract you. Digby is one press and does one thing.
How is it different from a smartwatch?
A watch is a small screen of apps and notifications. Digby has no apps and no notifications. It answers what you ask, and it never needs a phone nearby.
Does it have apps?
No. There is nothing to install, open or update, on the device or on a phone.
Is it a phone? Can it call or text?
No. It does not make calls or send messages, and it cannot call emergency services. It answers questions and helps you think.
Does it have a camera?
No.
What it can do
What kinds of things can I ask?
Almost anything you would ask a knowledgeable friend: facts, how-tos, advice, explanations, ideas, stories, quick math, translations, and things to remember.
Can I ask a follow-up question?
Yes. Press again and keep going. It remembers what you were just talking about, so you do not have to repeat yourself.
Can it help with homework?
Yes. It can explain an idea step by step, check your thinking, or quiz you out loud for a test.
Can it make things up, like stories?
Yes. Bedtime stories, dinner ideas from what is in the fridge, a draft of a tricky message. It writes them on the spot.
Can it set timers and reminders?
Yes. Ask for a timer or a reminder in plain words and it confirms on the screen.
Can it keep lists and remember things for me?
Yes. Tell it where you parked or what to add to the grocery list, and ask for it back later.
Does it know about current things, like the weather?
Yes. It is connected, so it can answer with current information such as the weather or when a shop closes.
Can it translate?
Yes. Ask how to say something in another language and it shows you, or says it aloud in Voice mode.
Is it always right?
No. It is very good, but like any AI it can get things wrong. Double-check anything important.
How fast does it answer?
The goal is a second or two for most questions. It depends on your cell signal.
Can I choose how long the answers are?
Yes. In your account you can set answers to short, medium or detailed for each device.
Can it read the answer out loud?
Yes. Flip the switch on top to Voice and it speaks instead of showing text. Press the wheel to hear an answer again.
Can I change the voice?
Yes. You pick a voice for each device in your account.
Does it play music or podcasts?
No. It is for questions and answers.
Will it work as a microphone for my computer?
That is planned for later: pair it over Bluetooth and it types what you say into any text box. It will not be there at launch.
Connection
Does it need Wi-Fi?
No. It never asks for a network or a password.
Does it need my phone?
No. It does not pair with a phone, and there is no phone app.
Do I need a SIM card or a carrier plan?
No. The cellular connection is built in and included in the monthly plan. You never deal with a carrier.
Where does it work?
Anywhere there is cell coverage: at home, in the car, at the park, in a store.
What happens when there is no signal?
It cannot answer until it is back in coverage. It needs a connection to think.
Does it work in other countries?
International use has not been confirmed yet. We will say before launch.
Is there a data limit?
The plan is meant to cover normal everyday use. Any limits will be published with the plan terms before launch.
Privacy
Is it always listening?
No. The microphone is on only while you hold the button.
Is what I ask saved?
Yes. Your questions and answers are kept in your account so you can look back at them and search them.
Can I delete my history?
Deleting your account deletes all of it. Deleting single questions is not available yet.
Is my data private?
Your history is visible only to the account the device is activated on. The full privacy policy will be published before launch.
Does it track where I am?
It has no GPS.
What if I lose it?
Report it lost from your account. That switches off its connection for good, so nobody else can use it. Your history stays safe in your account.
The device
How big is it?
About 52 × 64 × 14 mm, roughly the footprint of a matchbox car. That is the target for the first production design.
How heavy is it?
The target is 60 to 75 grams.
What colors does it come in?
The concepts are Chalk, Graphite and Blush. The final lineup may change.
What is the screen like?
A 1.8 inch AMOLED: black background, sharp white text, one answer at a time.
How long does the battery last?
We have not measured it on the production design yet. We will publish real numbers, not estimates.
How does it charge?
Over USB-C.
Is it waterproof? Is it tough?
Water and drop testing happen on the production design. We will publish the results before launch.
Does it come with a lanyard or a chain?
What is in the box has not been decided. The loop on top fits a chain, a lanyard, a clip or a key ring.
Can I use it with one hand?
Yes. Your fingers rest on the button and your thumb on the wheel.
Does it work for left-handed people?
Yes. In the left hand your thumb lands on the button and your fingers on the wheel.
Does it vibrate?
Yes. It gives a small tick for each step of the wheel and a tap when your answer is ready.
Price and plan
What does it cost?
$99 for the device, then $12 a month.
What does the monthly plan cover?
The cellular connection and the AI service. There is nothing else to buy or connect.
Does it work without the plan?
No. It needs the connection and the AI service to answer.
Is there a contract?
The plan terms will be published before launch.
Can I pause the service?
You can pause and resume a device's connection from your account. How pausing affects billing will be set out in the plan terms.
Is there a limit on how many questions I can ask?
Any limits will be published with the plan terms before launch.
Does it work with an AI subscription I already have?
No. Digby includes its own service, so there is nothing to connect.
Buying one
When can I buy one?
Not yet. Digby is still a prototype. The waitlist is the way to hear first.
How do I join the waitlist?
Enter your email in the form above. You can also tell us what you would use it for.
Does joining the waitlist cost anything?
No. It is only an email address, and there is no obligation to buy.
Where will you ship?
That has not been decided yet.
What about returns and warranty?
Those terms will be published before it goes on sale.
Setup and account
How do I set it up?
Scan the QR code on the card in the box, sign in with your email, and give the device a name. That is all.
Do I need an account?
Yes, to activate a device and to see its history and settings. All it takes is an email address.
Is there a password to remember?
No. We email you a sign-in link each time.
Can I rename my device?
Yes, any time, from your account.
Can I give my Digby to someone else?
Yes, but it has to be released from your account first so they can activate it. Email us and we will do that.
How do I delete my account?
From account settings. It deletes your history and pauses service on your devices.
Kids and families
Is it good for kids?
It was designed to be simple enough for one: a single button, and no apps, feeds, videos or messaging to wander into.
Can I see what my kid asked?
Yes. Every question and answer from a device is saved to the account it is activated on. You can read and search them when you sign in.
Can strangers contact my child through it?
No. It has no calls, messages, social features or web browser. It only talks with the person holding it.
Can my kid buy things with it?
No. It cannot make purchases.
Are answers filtered for children?
Details of any settings for children will be published before launch. Today, the safeguard is that a parent can see everything that was asked and answered.
What age is it for?
We have not set an age recommendation yet. It is a decision for parents.
Can one family have several devices?
Yes. One account can hold as many devices as you like, each with its own name, settings and history.
